Coursework included extensive drawing and design
courses, design methodology, marketing, physics,
materials of industry studies and sculpture.
While attending college, Laurel worked at a product
design studio, and did freelance graphic design.
She also spent 2 years competing with the Long
Beach State crew team.
After
college, Laurel worked doing historic building
restoration in Portland Oregon for Architectural
Reproductions Inc.. Skills utilized were materials
research and development, sculpture, drawing,
design, mold and model making, marketing, management,
and client interaction. During this time Laurel
also did freelance graphic design and continued
studies in human anatomy and physiology, comparative
vertebrate embryology, life drawing, and painting.
Laurel
returned to graduate school at the University
of California Santa Cruz to study Science Illustration.
During this time she did illustrations for the
Monterey Bay Aquarium. She completed an
internship at Scientific American Magazine
in New York City doing illustration and design.
After receiving her Graduate certificate, she
managed/produced children's educational multimedia
software at Engineering Animation Inc. in
Ames Iowa.
Laurel
lives in Ramona California. As a freelance illustrator,
designer, and a docent at the San Diego Museum
of Natural History, she continues towards
her goal to educate and excite people about science
and the world around them.
